Every year at Quarterway, the teachers and staff host a fun night for families. Some years, it is a Christmas Concert, some years it is a craft night and this year it is the Winter Wonderland Dance Happening from 6-8pm on December 14th. Hope to see you all there! Last year, I offered a mini concert in our classroom on the last day of school before the break. Parents were invited to check in at the office and then make their way down to our classroom for 2pm and our class performed their Christmas songs. Everyone was then welcome to stay and mingle afterwards until the bell for dismissal. I can offer this again if there is an interest as I know a Christmas Concert in Kindergarten and grade 1 is a nice memory for many families. Please answer the form below to help me plan for this event. Email me if the date doesn't work for you or you have other questions/concerns.
Our School Craft Fair is next weekend! NOVEMBER 25TH
Aldea Maya Charity will have a table at the event and will be selling our Class' handmade Christmas cards and the Christmas Cards of our buddy class to provide families in Guatemala with life's necessities. Our class was also encouraged to contribute to the TRAVEL themed Gift Basket to raffle off at the event. If you have anything that you could contribute or if you'd like to donate something, please send it along with your child in the morning and a note. So far we have a travel journal, a money belt and a travel game. Some ideas: - benedryl - beach towels - sunscreen - mini toiletries - waterproof cases? - snacks - magazines - puzzle books and pens - travel game for kids - pool toys? - inflatables? - purses, wallets, cloth bags, beach bags - luggage tags - sleep masks - hand sanitizer - DIY travel games/ sets to entertain kids If you'd like to choose to just contribute a few dollars, send it with a note and there is a parent that is willing to shop on behalf of the class. Thanks! Hope you are able to come to the event and that a few parents from our group wins some prizes! Merci, Mme Char The grade 1 classes at Quarterway do a home-reading program where the kids are responsible for reading a book to a member of their family every night. They colour in a stack of books for every 10 books read and receive a certificate and a prize for every 50 books read! Please make sure to check what book they've chosen every day and return them to school every morning. A request for 5$ will be sent home for lost or stolen books as it costs quite a bit to supply enough little readers for this program. Please keep home reading booklet and books in plastic pocket of agenda. Merci! For anyone wanting additional reading at home - Kindergarten too! I've signed up to EPIC BOOKS and there is a small French Collection there too. Our classroom code is EGB-4164 https://www.getepic.com/app/profile-select login: [email protected] password: quarterway Happy Reading! More pictures on the photo sharing page!
Hope you all have a safe and Happy Halloween! This will be a long week! Tomorrow we will try to do some quiet and calm activities for anyone lacking energy! Upcoming events: Remembrance Day Assembly: Friday November 10th in the gym Parents always welcome to come to assemblies and events in the gym. Tomorrow is Halloween!
Kids are invited to come to school in a Halloween Costume. There will be a parade in the morning and students often bring a change of clothes for recess and the afternoon (optional). Some things to consider: 1- Kids are busy when they are at school- props sometimes get lost or broken. 2- Faces must be visible at school. Masks are not to be worn and makeup kept to a minimum. (Students must be recognizable!) 3- no weapons at school (foam is ok. light savers are ok. fake guns are not ok.) 4- dress for weather (it's cold at recess) 5- kids need to be able to walk properly and sit cross-legged at the carpet. Merci! Mme Char Parents are welcome to watch the parade in the gym at 1am
Thursday Oct. 26th Motivational speaker Michael Bortolotto presentation presents on inclusion http://www.positiverebel.ca/ Friday Oct. 27th Corn Maze Field Trip with Grands Amis Quick Checklist: - boots - extra outside shoes in a bag - bag to bring a pumpkin home in - quick easy snack in pocket Tuesday Oct. 31st Halloween! Costume Parade in the morning - come dressed in costume but bring a change of clothes for big recess and afternoon. Parents are welcome to come watch the parade in the gym at 10am. Check out the newest pictures of our apple sauce day and some meaningful play happening in the class. Next week parents are invited to spend 15 minutes with their child's teacher at the school. This is a time to have a look at their student workbooks, discuss behavior, academic growth, and ways to support students at home.
When possible, please arrange to come without your child to speak to their teacher. Here is the link to sign up for a 15 minute spot: http://quarterway.schoolappointments.com/ Looking forward to spending time with you next week! Merci, Char Bring in an apple/pomme if you have one at home.
We are going to make sauce aux pommes Friday with all the apples in the class. We will also look at their sizes, shapes and colours, cut them open and see how they are all the same inside and do art projects with apples. |
